Dr. Rikst Attema, Naturopathic Care in the heart of DuncanI am happy to offer comprehensive Naturopathic Care at the Matraea Centre in the heart of downtown Duncan, B.C. I am passionate about what I do and have been blessed to work with patients as a Naturopathic Physician the last 14 years in practice.
I use an eclectic approach in my practice using botanical medicine, homeopathy, nutritional counseling, acupuncture, therapeutic injections, exercise, counseling, nutritional supplementation, prescription medications when needed and more. With a background in Human Kinetics and Exercise Physiology, I have long believed that diet and lifestyle are the foundation of health. Our bodies are amazing and have a strong innate ability to heal but sometimes we need guidance along the way. Naturopathic Medicine offers a safe, effective and non invasive way of achieving this. In BC, as a Naturopathic Doctor we are fortunate to have such a large scope of practice which allows us to better serve our patients. I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor by the College of Naturopathic Physicians of B.C. (CNPBC) and am a member of the British Columbia Naturopathic Association (BCNA) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Medicine (CAND). I have experience and a keen interest in women’s health including perimenopause/menopause, bioidentical hormones, fertility, diabetes and metabolic conditions, preconception and postnatal care, weight loss, gastrointestinal health, chronic infections, and mental health. I completed my naturopathic education at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in New Westminster, BC. Before moving to beautiful B.C., I was studying at the University of Ottawa where I completed both a BScHon in Human Kinetics and then a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. During my graduate studies, I had the opportunity to work on a large clinical trial examining the effects of exercise on Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. My thesis work is published in medical journals and has been presented at several medical conferences. Born in Europe, I was exposed to complementary therapies at an early age and quickly became fascinated with natural medicine. I am extremely passionate about Naturopathic medicine and strongly believes in the innate healing power of the body. I believe that patient education and empowerment are key to patient health and success and that the integration of both conventional and complementary medicines is ideal and a more comprehensive approach to health care. I treat all my patients individually and work with them to achieve their goals. My greatest joy in life has been becoming the mother to my daughter after a long and challening fertility journey. I love spending as much time as I can with my family as well as being active and spending time in nature exploring West Coast! I also love baking and exploring healthy ways to make food for my family and learning more about health. Education & Training
